Table mistakes[edit source]

Sorry about my mistakes in vendor table creation (most notably at John Bynum and Lane Bridges, which you thoughtfully corrected). I'd copy-pasted the table from another vendor page and just changed the line items without paying much attention to the actual table code. I'll take a look through the other vendor NPC pages I've created and make sure they're fixed. (Insert witty comment about there being a learning curve, etc.) -Alerik taco 15:40, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

no worries, stuff like that is minor compared to the additions you are making. I'm just picky about style so, I fixed it... I didn't look at all your posts, just the two newest :D I don't track every post everyone makes. You are doing great! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 15:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Trust me, it's appreciated. Little things like this help me learn, and it's a good thing you caught me relatively early in my NPC page creation spree so that there are fewer pages to correct. Thanks! :) User:Alerik/sig 15:57, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

A few quick questions[edit source]

Sorry to bother you, just have a few questions to run by you.

  1. Should I be adding sold-item tables to profession trainer NPC pages? They're technically vendors that sell stuff, but since they all sell the exact same stuff (as far as I know) I didn't know whether it should be added to each individual vendor or not.
  1. I've noticed that when making an item page there's a field for listing who sells the item. Is there any way to use this to keep from having to manually make the item tables on vendor NPC pages (similar to how quests do)? Seems like it would save a lot of time in creating the vendor NPC pages.
  1. I ran across an item icon I needed that appears to not have been uploaded already. For now I've uploaded a low-quality .jpg version to get by. I saw that Ciovala seems to have done the icon uploads in the past, so should I wait for another "icon dump" to take place or try and figure out how to get these high-quality icon images and upload it myself?

Thanks in advance for your help! User:Alerik/sig 05:37, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I haven't looked at the item stuff at all, but since it is mostly brought in by xml drop, I would guess it's not done with SMW tags the way the quest stuff was (though I could be wrong). I will be doing an icon item upload maybe as early as tomorrow, but the thing is, I think the entire item section is going to be uploaded from a data dump.. That's why I've been staying away from it, and working on skills instead.
I would suggest you hold off on the items stuff and do more with the NPCs. As for the sold items for the profession trainer, if they all sell the same stuff, you put that on a subpage and then just transclude the single page on all the separate trainer pages. That way you only have to do the table once. To transclude a page, you use the code {{:pagename}} using the name of the page you wish to include. You can see examples by following the achivement links on the main page. Each table is actually a separate page. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:44, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I hadn't thought of transcluding a subpage. That definitely makes sense; I'll see about making subpages for all the vendor types soon. Thanks for telling me about the item dump before I wasted a ton of time making new item pages! User:Alerik/sig 05:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'm trying not to discourage editing, but yeah, I don't want to see you wasting a lot of time when it's going to be automatted more or less very soon... hopefully in the next few days. BTW...we really need to talk about your signature.... it's cool and all, but... it's a gazillion lines of code, an we really kinda frown on templates. They can cause server issues if vandalized or changed. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:55, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
I'd replied to your comment about my sig on my talk page, but I guess you didn't see it. I've put it back to the default for now. Alerik 05:59, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Necromancer Abilities[edit source]

Hello!

Ciovala (I think that's her name) told me to get in touch with you. I'm trying to work on the Necromancer abilities tree and get it more completed. I did a bunch of updates last night, mostly correcting the abilities to math the current 1.3 hotfix changes so far. I'd be very interested in working with you on this project.

I was wondering if there was any kind of consensus on where we should go from here? I was thinking of making each tree ability have a single unique page but I wasn't sure if this would be overkill. Let me know what you think. Also, I saw you were trying to get graphics listed up on the abilities? I'm not at my home computer with Rift installed right now, but if I get back before we have some screenshots I can work on trying to get a graphic uploaded, unless we have a better way of doing things.

Let me know what I can do to help.

I'm working from the xml data provided by Trion and available here I have already imported the primary abilities as individual pages, and am working on adding the secondary ones. I'm working on the Cleric trees atm, you can see what I've done Cabalist abilities, Druid abilities, and Purifier abilities. I'm about half way finished with the Inquisitor abilities. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:20, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
That file is great. Thanks for sharing it. I've begun working on making some individual pages for the Necromancer tree abilities already and will also work on the roots as well. Thanks a ton!CobaltLion 17:23, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

NPC form "Title" field limitation[edit source]

Sorry to bug you again, Wyn. Just a minor annoyance but I figured it was worth bringing up.

The "Title" field on Form:NPC has a limit on how many characters you can enter into the field, and this limit is too short (see NPCs like Pamyua Loamroot). The current limit is set to 23 characters. I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind this, so I haven't changed anything (I'm uncomfortable making edits to such important pages anyway). In the meantime, I've been going back and filling in truncated titles after having previewed the page. I hope that's ok (kinda depends on what reasons if any the field was initially set to that 23-char limit).

Also, I hope bringing this directly to you is the right protocol for this type of thing. I thought about putting this at Form_talk:NPC but I was afraid if I did it'd never be seen.

Thanks for your time! -Alerik talk 01:17, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

It's definitely ok to go back and fix the truncated titles. I will look into fixing the form. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:19, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
I have increased the max to 40, I hope that's enough. If you haven't noticed, Zhuge is adding NPC's based on the xml files. There is a lot of in game info that is needed for them if you can help with that, it would be spectacular. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:33, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
In my admittedly biased opinion, the NPC pages based solely on the XML data are of dubious value. Each one of those NPCs will have to be later found in-game to get images, coordinates, subzone/area, etc. It seems to me that it would be better to do all of this at once when creating the page, as having the page already made with the limited XML data isn't that much help to the person who later fills in the details. I personally would rather see a few mostly-complete pages than a ton of pages with almost nothing on them. Might just be me, though...I'll admit I tend to be stubborn and set in my ways.
On a semi-related note, any thoughts about making the title field visible in the infobox on NPC pages? Not sure what benefit the info is if it can only be seen by editing the page. Just an idea. -Alerik talk 02:06, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
My thoughts are this... searching for an NPC and finding something is better than searching for something and finding nothing. A new editor is much more likely to add a few facts to something that is incomplete rather than trying to figure out how to add a completely new page. I am trying to determine why the title field is not visibile, it's suppose to be, and hopefully before I go to sleep tonight it will be. Btw, it would be much preferrable to keep conversations in one place, rather than splitting them up, had I not been watching recent changes, I would not have known about your response. In the future please don't fragment conversations. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 02:24, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
The problem you are having is due to a server move earlier, and is being resolved now. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 02:49, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Testing[edit source]

Testing

Updates[edit source]

I was thinking of trying my hand at some wiki work here on Telara, and I was thinking of reworking how the patch note section is done. Is this okay? Anithira 06:12, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

any help at all is welcome. I do what I can, but I have too many other priorities to do this as well as it deserves. I'd like to ask to be kept in the loop if you are making major changes though. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:32, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
I have begun poking around, and creating some needed templates, however, I cannot seem to find a way to make navbox's collapsible like Wowpedia's achievement page (bottom) with the show/hide options. Is this possible currently or will I have to create a template possible of doing that before using it? Thanks :) Oh, also, is changing my name on here possible, or is it tied too closely to Curse's main database? Anithira 20:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Currently, you can change your username by simply creating a new one, and asking for your contributions to be merged, however, we are in the process of collapsing our wikis into a single user database (Curse.com) so, when that is completed, you will be required to use your Curse.com username. As for collapsing tables, that should not be a problem. Let me take a look at stuff. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:30, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
The nav bar templates currently in use were established by the original creators of this wiki, using non-Wikipedia styling/standards. I'm not exactly sure I want to see Wikipedia style boxes here. Where is it you feel it's necessary to change them? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:53, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
I fully understand that take on it. My current idea is to have the patches setup with Beta, Head Start, Original Rift, and Storm Legion patches in a template at the bottom of each page. With the amount of patches and hotfixes there are, i figured it would be easiest to have each section collapsible (click the show for Beta, see all the beta patches). The other option is to have the hotfixes not linked in the patches template, and instead have a separate template for those at the bottom of the relevant patches (so clicking Patch 1.8 would have a template for all those hotfixes, Patch 1.9 for only the ones it has, etc.). I'm still messing around with it right now, as I get it further thought out I'll save it and show you. Anithira 05:30, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

AbuseFilter[edit source]

Hey there,

With the AbuseFilter, did you do any customisations to the look/feel of it or is it just default out of the box install?

Regards, Maygus talk cont 00:45, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean, each filter has been written to block a specific type of vandal. We're continuously fine tuning them to work more efficiently. They aren't perfect, but are far better than nothing. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:05, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
